Broken Pieces Refracted Light. Let Him RAIN over us!

Broken Pieces Refracted Light. Let Him RAIN over us!

Matthew 5:16 - Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven

In thinking about how broken the world is, and how broken we are, I began visualizing shattered pieces of pottery or broken glass. I've shared messages about the beautiful practice of kintsugi in the Japanese culture where they fix broken pieces by melding them back together with gold thus making the object more valuable that in it's original state. This certainly is what God does with us. His Grace is the gold that has fused us back together from our brokenness of sin and shame. We are seen more valuable--and innocent, not guilty--through the gold...the grace...that covers us.

I started thinking about the pieces or broken glass and the beautiful mosaics that are made up of broken pieces strategically placed. God has a master mosaic for the broken parts of our lives to create a beautiful picture. Furthermore, our complete picture is part of his master picture for all of creation—amazing! I love those mosaics that are comprised of millions of pictures that, when together, make up one giant picture.

Glass like anything that let's light in, is able to refract light. What I find to be even more beautiful, is that objects that receive light that have rough, unparalleled, uneven edges can refract light in colors. We often see hues of red, green, and blue that filter through broken glass. The glass bends the light wave’s direction which causes a color to emit. Without light there is no color. We are similar, when we let light in, we are able to refract light. What we let in combined with our perspective is critical to what we display outwardly. God uses all of our beautiful broken pieces to emit and radiate beautiful colors as we let Him shine through us.

Any Pink Floyd fans out there? Rainbows are the result of the refraction and reflection of light. Through prisms, we get our beautiful rainbow. As we let the light of Jesus shine through us and study the word, we begin to refine our edges. They become sharper—with order. If we have a firm foundation of scripture and let THE Light of Jesus Christ in, we can refract beautiful clear images. The image of God’s promise. His promises are always in us, but the more we let Him shine through us and do a work to sharpen us, we can radiate His beautiful promises.

Even broken glass with it's rough asymmetrical and unparalleled sides is able to refract light. God can use anyone and anything when His light shines through. We should be on a mission to refine our edges by studying His word and spending time. We are called to be light in this very dark world. We are commissioned with sharing the good news and I can’t think of a better way than to radiate his promise.

As mentioned, rainbows are a product of refraction and reflection, a phenomena that involve a change in a wave's direction. A refracted wave may appear "bent," while a reflected wave might seem to "bounce back" from a surface or other wavefront. Both of those characteristics remind me that sometimes we may feel bent…out of shape…but in those times, there is such a sweetness in the bounce back.

One more cool detail God shared with me…We most often view rainbows in the sky due to light refracting through raindrops. We all know the quote, “If you want the rainbow, you have to go through the storm.” There truly is nothing more magnificent than enduring a bad storm to see a rainbow at the end. Rainbows formed by water droplets are very much about perspective in which the viewer can see. It’s very important to have the right perspective to be able to see the promise. Stay in the word so your lens sees the rainbow. A rainbow is produced when sunlight strikes raindrops in front of a viewer at a precise angle (42 degrees). Out of curiosity, I wondered if there was any biblical numerology to the number 42. As God would have it, there is a very PRECISE connection. There are 42 generations (names) in the Gospel of Matthew's version of the Genealogy of Jesus; Amazing!! 42 degrees of descendants to God’s Promise.

As we approach closer to the end of times—and yes we are nearing Jesus’s return if you are paying attention-- it is prophesied that for 42 months the Beast will hold dominion over the Earth (Revelation 13:5). After those 42 months, Jesus will return to fulfill God’s final promise—to RAIN (reign) and rule forever!! God has a plan for the brokenness of this world and each individuals life. Let His light shine through you. Let Him refine and shape you through the reading of His word. Diamonds are formed under the most intensive pressure. To get the most beautiful rainbows—the most beautiful promise—you must go through the most intensive pressure. Don’t be lukewarm..boldy seek the Lord. A real diamond appears gray and white inside (brilliance) when held to the light and can reflect rainbow colors (fire) onto other surfaces. A fake diamond will display rainbow colors within the stone when held up to light. Reflect His promise…don’t keep it within!!
